Rodent control in Jurong West is about entry routes as much as the rodents. Removing the animals without closing the route means the next one arrives on the same path.
Why this is different here
HDB began planning the Jurong West new town in 1984, and the first flats in the wider Jurong area were completed at Taman Jurong in 1963. Mature building fabric of that age has had decades for populations to establish, and offers more harbourage in settled joints, service ducts and older cabinetry, so treatment here is usually about finding the established source rather than the sighting.
What actually happens
- Established populations mean the sighting is rarely the source; the harbourage is.
- Service ducts and settled joints in older fabric are the usual reservoirs.
- Treating only where an insect was seen is why infestations return.
